Forced perspective?

I’m kind of at a loss to figure out The UP pulled this one off.

Those look like the same collards from yesterday’s “Boat on a Stick” picture, so this can’t be a real airplane.  The fact there’s no one in the cockpit would reinforce this.  So, it must be a toy and The UP used forced perspective to give the impression of a real airplane.  But how?  I don’t see any evidence of a string or other support holding it in place.  I can’t imagine someone just threw it and this was just a lucky snap.  Or was it?  Did they have RC planes that far back?
